چکیده

Tourtellotte, Mark E. (University of Connecticut, Storrs), Harold J. Morowitz, and Phil Kasimer. Defined medium for Mycoplasma laidlawii. J. Bacteriol. 88:11-15. 1964.-A defined medium for the pleuropneumonia-like organism Mycoplasma laidlawii B is described in which absolute requirements for coenzyme A and longchain fatty acids were demonstrated. This organism did not require cholesterol or macromolecules of high molecular weight, but did show a growth requirement for peptides. Optimal growth in the basal medium was obtained in the presence of two purified peptides from crystalline ribonuclease, one of which has the amino acid sequence threonine - threonine - glutamine - alanine - asparagine-lysine, and the other lysine-glutamic acid-threonine-alanine-alanine-alanine-lysine. Continuous, but suboptimal, growth was obtained with the single ribonuclease peptide: lysine-glutamic acid-threonine-alanine-alanine-alanine-lysine.

Pollock, Mary E. (University of Minnesota, Minneapolis). Use of dialyzing culture technique for high yield of Mycoplasma. J. Bacteriol. 90:1682-1685. 1965.-The saprophytic pleuropneumonia-like organism, Mycoplasma laidlawii, type A, was cultivated within a dialyzing membrane suspended in a reservoir of uninoculated medium. Generation time was not decreased by this method, but the period of acti...

Interaction of mycoplasma virus type 2 with cellular components of Acholeplasma laidlawii strain JA1.

Mycoplasma virus type 2 was shown to adsorb specifically to intact cells, membranes, and lipoglycan of Acholeplasma laidlawii strain JA1 but not to these components of Acholeplasma oculi. The oligosaccharide chain of the lipoglycan defined the specificity of the receptor site since deacylation not only did not reduce adsorption but increased it threefold. Actual adsorption of virus to lipoglyca...

Characteristics of a new sterol-nonrequiring Mycoplasma.

Two Mycoplasma strains recovered from tissue culture environments were found to grow in complex media devoid of serum or serum fractions containing cholesterol and in a cholesterol-free synthetic medium. Neither strain was capable of synthesizing pigmented carotenoids, although these compounds are present in, and characteristic of, other sterol-nonrequiring mycoplasmas. Serological tests and an...

Adaptation to Unfavorable Conditions of Growth: Pathogenicity of Acholeplasma Laidlawii Pg8

As a result of cultivation of A. laidlawii PG8 cells on the deficient medium during 480 days, the mycoplasma culture adapted in vitro to unfavorable growth conditions was obtained. The culture consisted of cells with sizes less than 0.2 μm and features of A. laidlawii PG8 ultramicroforms, nanocells. A. laidlawii PG8 culture adapted in vitro to unfavorable growth conditions shows more evident ph...

Extracellular Membrane Vesicles and Phytopathogenicity of Acholeplasma laidlawii PG8

For the first time, the phytopathogenicity of extracellular vesicles of Acholeplasma laidlawii PG8 (a ubiquitous mycoplasma that is one of the five common species of cell culture contaminants and is a causative agent for phytomycoplasmoses) in Oryza sativa L. plants was studied. Data on the ability of extracellular vesicles of Acholeplasma laidlawii PG8 to penetrate from the nutrient medium int...
